Set to top last year’s event, MFW2012 marries fashion with music
Written by Cheryl Chew
What is fashion without music? Perhaps the most significant element of this year’s MSW event is the fusion of the two.
In his opening speech, organiser Frank Cinatmani brought up music-fashion icons such as Lady Gaga to illustrate that “the music industry should bring back the fashion industry and vice versa.”
The highlight of the night is of course – the Runway. Spencer Hart was the first to go. Male models in polished suits walked barefoot with a calm composure that emitted confidence effortlessly. Without footwear, each look stood out independently without trying to supercede each other. Endorsed by celebrities who patron The Golden Globes and The Oscars, it is no wonder that Spencer Hart is a brand that ensures a suitable cut for every man.
The evening also featured Korea’s most famous fashion designer, Songzio. He named his label Songzio after himself, and showcased a series of sophisticated avant-garde coats and jackets amidst Bach’s Partita No.2 BWV 1004. The first look was a classic large coat with a strong belt strapped round the waist. His knee-length coats were elegant, neat and desirable. Every outfit had a hint of black, and some of the most striking ensembles included pieces of a warm, dark purple. The Autumn/Winter 2012 collection can be viewed at http://www.songzio.com/.
Prominent Korean band 8eight performed a total of three songs including the hit ‘Close That Lip’ and ‘Dilemma’ which painted a wonderful imagery of a couple not expressing love to one another enough.
Teenage guitar prodigy and sweetheart Sungha Jung also made his appearance and performed solo with the main song in Phantom of the Opera, My Favourite Things (from The Sound of Music) and the Japanese anime Theme Of Lupin III before playing alongside Megan Lee with Mama Do by Pixie Lott, I’m In Love by Narsha and Someone Like You by Adele.
This is only Day One of Men’s Fashion Week. We’re going to bring you more updates so stay tuned for Day 2 and more!
