If you’re a fan of local movies, then you’re in for a treat! A brand-new initiative by mm2 Entertainment and Cathay Cineplexes will be launching their Go Local Go Cinema in 2020.
Under this new initiative, Singaporeans and PRs will be able to watch local movies for FREE. There will be at least three home-grown films that will subsequently be screened at Cathay Cineplexes at no cost to moviegoers.
One of the first movies slated to begin production is Writing Letters (working title), a film produced in collaboration with Mocha Chai Laboratories, and helmed by award-winning Director Chai Yee Wei, whose past works with mm2 include That Girl in Pinafore (2013) and Twisted (2011). Writing Letters traces the heartwarming and unlikely friendship between an illiterate father and his neighbor who helps pen his letters to his daughter studying abroad. Even though it is set in the 80s, the movie deals with choices and issues that are even more relevant today, as our society ages.
Cathay Cineplexes will be showing these local films across all eight locations to enable access to the films to all Singaporeans. For cinema lovers, it’s a great opportunity to promote Singapore films as an expression of the Singaporean identity.
