It’s official. McDonald’s has partnered with K-Pop superstars BTS to offer the band’s favourite order! The announcement for “BTS Meal” was dropped across social media, announcing the collab using french fries to emulate BTS’ iconic logo. Don’t rush to McDonald’s just yet – the BTS Meal will only be available in Singapore on 21 June (it launched in the US on May 26th) due to new restrictions.
In the meantime, check out their ad – featuring BTS’ latest single, Butter!
What ARMY can expect
So what in The BTS Meal? It includes a 9-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries, and medium Coke, with Sweet Chili and Cajun dipping sauces completing the meal. So yes, this is just a regular meal with sauces described to be inspired by “popular recipes from McDonald’s South Korea” and it’ll be the regular 9-piece box as offered in Singapore, not 7 pieces to reflect the 7 members, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, RM, V, Jimin, and Jung Kook.
The meal will be available for dine-in, as well as via McDelivery and Drive-Thrus. Sadly, there isn’t any merch to go along with the meal. But you can buy limited edition official merch – with a retro vibe befitting their new single, Butter – from the Weverse shop. Here’s what you can expect:
This is the latest installment of McDonald’s Famous Orders programme, which most recently included the Travis Scott Meal. For that partnership, the meal comprised a Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, ketchup and mustard; medium fries (with BBQ Sauce); and a Sprite, accompanied by a limited edition merchandise line which sold out fast. Apparently, the Travis Scott Meal contributed to a shortage in key ingredients in McDonald’s in the USA due to overwhelming demand, according to USA Today.
The last time McDonald’s launched the celebrity meal programme, it was way back in 1992 with Michael Jordan’s McJordan burger.
What people are saying
After the announcement, it’s no surprise to see a tide of memes and responses, like:
The BTS Meal will start rolling out in the US in May 26 at participating restaurants, and will be available globally in nearly 50 countries (it’ll hit Singapore on May 27, a day after Malaysia). The last country to get The BTS Meal is Indonesia – they’ll have to wait almost a month!
