A Campus writer’s experience of the Nike Goddess Run

I am a cross between a sloth and a panda, so I surprised even myself when I signed up for the Nike Goddess BFF 5km run.
Nike’s BFF race was an all girls race, and runners had to sign up with their BFF (Best Friend Forever). There’s no escaping the the strong emotional bonds girls share with one another.
I asked my mother to join with me as my BFF because despite all our bickering and disagreements, she has always stood by me through thick and thin, and is one friend who tolerates all my nonsense and still loves me unconditionally. Furthermore, she is a disciplinarian who would definitely make sure I finish the race without giving up.
Due to the rain, there was a delay in the flag off time, and the race only commenced at 5:15pm at Sentosa Wave House. With moist sea breeze and cooling drizzle caressing my face, the run turned out to be very enjoyable.
We ran past the beautiful Sentosa beaches- Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach and Tanjong Beach, before a U-turn back to Sentosa wave House. I have never experienced so many people cheering and watching from the side as we ran.
At the last stretch, it started pouring, which only spurred me on to complete the race. Once we saw the finishing line, my mother and I nodded at each other, and dashed across it together.
It was a very enjoyable experience and the sense of achievement from completing a 5KM run is amazing. There is a first time for everything, and I am glad that Nike BFF race was my first. Sign me up for the next one!
