Find out about the girl behind the roar

Studying, producing, modeling, film-making and volunteering for charity – this self-professed “perfectionist” does it all.
From an early age, Ang Geck Geck, had already begun to instill the value of hard work ethic.
“I started working at the age of 13 and I never stopped working. I would take two to three jobs at once while schooling,” she explained.
Now, ten years later, she’s still working hard to finish her undergraduate degree at NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media. With an appointment book always by her side, Ang Geck Geck strives to carefully plan her schedule so as to fit the most into her already jam-packed agenda.
“I get about five hours of sleep every night. The rest of my time is spent working or schooling.”
Such as, shooting a television commercial for Cetaphil earlier this year. Fast forward to the end of the video clip to catch AGG’s speaking line and saccharine smile.
On top of everything, she manages to find time to write in her blog titled, “A Female Cat Roars Louder than Before”. Stumped by the meaning? She explains the title is a metaphor that simply represents herself.
‘When I was younger, people used to call me a cat. I’m always trying to be better, so that explains the ‘louder than before’. And the roaring, well, I want to be heard.”
Ang Geck Geck admits she can’t express herself well, so blogging allows her share her thoughts and be heard. Focusing on art and fashion, the blog got its start in 2009. To her, fashion is more than a look, it’s a lifestyle where every detail of the design relates to a person’s life and has the ability to alter moods.
“Sometimes when I feel down, I would dress up just to make myself feel better.”
But she has a lot to feel good about these days. She recently took part in a Valentine’s Day themed Charity Auction organized by Sold.sg, a leading online shopping website dedicated to luxury and entertainment products, in collaboration wiht omy.sg. To benefit the Spastic Children’s Association of Singapore, 10 bloggers, including Ang Geck Geck, promoted and sold themselves online with all proceeds going directly to the charity.
One lucky winner was able to accompany Ang Geck Geck on the dinner date to Limoncello restaurant worth over $95 per person. In total, Sold.sg was able to raise $3,100 in bids.
As a role model to her peers, AGG leaves these final words, “Your youth doesn’t live forever, so never give up on your dream.” She stresses to really find yourself and know your ability, and from there, just keep trying and trying.
