Following the success of ‘Planes’ in 2013, Disney presented a sequel for its series of talking cars and intellectual planes to the delight of many fans out there.
After overcoming his fear of heights and coming out on top in his competitions, it seems like nothing could stop world-famous air-racer, Dusty Crophopper (Dane Cook). Well, except for a mechanical malfunction of sorts. Dusty tried to come to terms with his condition, in which his broken gear box prevents him from going too fast, lest he will end up crashing. Dusty did crash and set fire to the runway, only for the fire safety officer, Mayday (Hal Holbrook), putting out the flames albeit unconvincingly, using an unorthodox method. The town was then closed off as the inadequate firefighting had proved it unsafe. In order to have the town reopened in time for the Corn Fest, the planes had a change of course and now Dusty has to undergo ‘Fire & Rescue’ training with Blade Ranger (Ed Harris) and his fire-fighting team.
Just like the past Disney films, the sequel encompasses the classic themes of “friendship” and “camaraderie”. We see how the characters in the film are all interdependent and once again proving that with numbers come strength. Excellent learning points for kids. However, before you pass it off as yet another “kids’ movie”, the film is actually a touching tribute to all the brave firefighters out there. We follow Dusty as he and his fearless team battles a massive wildfire that broke out in the Piston National Park. It illustrates the kind of danger firefighters regularly face as they fight to save the lives of people they don’t even know.
“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is definitely a movie that both kids and adults can appreciate. Just be sure to have your tissues with you as the sequel is bound to be a tearjerker for the audience.
The movie will be showing in cinemas island-wide from 4th September.
