INSPIRATIONS BEHIND THE WHIMSICAL DESIGNS OF SAUCE
Rhythm, colours and patterns inspire me. Things I see in people, on streets or on the web sometimes trickle into my imagination. Inspiration comes from connecting the old to the new. Exploring new cities is good- I get to know new things. Going back to my old hometown is sometimes good too; it lets me compare my former self to my present self and points me toward what I should do next. As a traveller, I enjoy visiting the houses of city-dwellers. Their stories fascinate me. Visiting friends in Sweden might be next on my list.
PRIORITIES VERSUS PAINTING A PRETTY PICTURE
The keyword for me was ‘magical’. I wanted to create images that could be appreciated by people without distracting or overwhelming them. Sauce’s decor and vibe had to be cheeky, but not cute, kinky or fantastical. Thankfully, I was given the creative freedom to play around with layout, colours, compositions, character designs and more! From the pictures available, I figured out what colour scheme would go along with the interior. And even though the colours might not make sense as pure artwork, they accentuate the lighting, furniture and wooded interior of the bar. When you look at it in its entirety, there is rhythm.
EMOTIONS RUNNING HIGH
I was pretty excited when I got commissioned by The Butter Factory. I was sure that it would be fun. I love that mural projects let me see my work drawn to a large scale.
