For those of you who didn’t notice, this year’s April Fool’s fell on the same day as Easter Sunday. However, that didn’t stop many of these companies from some tomfoolery. Since we all love food-related posts, here are some food-related April Fool’s gems found on our sunny shores:
Burger King’s Chocolate Whopper
Featuring a chocolate cake bun encasing flame-
Boost Nasi Lemak Smoothie
Who knew that you could simply chuck an entire plate of nasi lemak into a blender and turn it into a smoothie? Containing ingredients like cucumber, spinach, coconut water, coconut milk, sorbet and ice, it could be real… until it added cooked rice and chili flakes.
Durian-scented Fragrance
You read that right – some love it, some hate it, but Visit Singapore showcased a fake brand called ‘Dewey Anne’ that turned the king of fruits into a fragrance ‘fit for royalty’, with a scent that lingers.
Durex Smoked Chicken Sausage Flavour
Edible condoms are breaking the barrier with this Smoked Chicken Sausage (extra spicy) flavour. While this is a hoax, there are actually real condoms with weirder flavours – including durian, spicy nasi lemak, bacon, and cola.
Texas Chicken Chickskin Notebook
Texas Chicken’s prank featured a notebook with a fried-chicken-skin cover that smells and feels just like your favourite fried chicken – just in case you want to bring that lovely flavour into class.
Foodpanda Fusion Blends
Foodpanda’s prank ‘fusion blends’ transforms your meals into drinks, featuring “all the flavour without the hassle of having to chew”. There’s “game night” (cheeseburger) and “break up” (chocolate cheesecake) – we can’t tell if it’s more like smoothies or baby food.
Ribena Hair Colour
According to Ribena, this season’s hottest hair trend is ‘Ribena hair’ – their Do-It-Yourself hack involves adding a cup of Ribena cordial to your conditioner, applying the mixture to your hair and wrapping it up with a towel for 20 minutes. Voila, ants will love you.
